Many scientists think that the Universe was born in a colossal explosion called the big bang. In this explosion, about 15 billion years ago, all matter, energy, space, and time were created. Such was the force of this explosion that, to this day, the Universe is still expanding. Gigantic clouds of dust and gas have clumped together over billions of years to produce galaxies, stars and planets - the Universe as we know it.
