“I had bad experiences with let’s say Amazon, the thing gets here and then it’s even more expensive to try to send it back, than if I was buying it. I’d rather order from a local shop here, because then they can take the responsibility, the warranty and all that stuff.”

Lauryn, a successful career woman and mother of four, has little patience with online shopping. From her perspective, it is slow and inconvenient, offering few merits other than the somewhat larger selection of goods. Thus, she prefers to pay a premium price for convenience. She finds the items she likes online and places an order with a local shop, which then orders the items and lets her return them if she doesn’t want them after all. Sometimes she will use personal shoppers who come to her office with a selection of desired items, such as ‘red shoes’ or ‘black dresses’. She’s in the position of having experienced few financial limitations, which makes some of the perceived benefits of internet shopping irrelevant in her particular case.
