yes it is very real! i have met a group of friends while playing a online massive multi player game called Ragnarok, and back almost twenty years ago we used to have online meetings using team speak no one at the time had ever seen other faces and even them we daily had those meeting to talk about mostly the game but our lives as well, we chatted about our problems our family our social shyness! and by doing that we have created a bond that lasts until today! we have already met in person several times and that was my anecdote of an online friendship that lasted and still last more than twenty years
