American Youth Hostels, Inc., is a membership organization that promotes international understanding. We do this by bringing together travelers of all ages, past histories and nationalities in hostels, and by making low-cost educational and recreational travel programs available. Hello! Welcome to the Washington International Youth Hostel.
We hope you will have a nice stay here. Washington, D.C. is an exciting city for an adventurous traveler and an excellent starting point for exploration of the beautiful countryside and historic towns of Virginia, Maryland and southeastern Pennsylvania. People want to see and do much here, and often we find that travelers are tired when they arrive. We have written the following “quick list” so that you may plan your stay.
- The hotel doors are locked at MIDNIGHT. No one is permitted to get in after that time.
- The use of sleep is obligatory. NO SLEEPING BAGS ARE PERMITTED. A set of two sleep sheets may be rented for two dollars and there is a $5.OO deposit which will be refunded when you return that sleep sheet.
- Reception desk hours:
Morning 8: 00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Note: Check-out is by 9:30 a.m. If you have not paid by 9:30 REMOVE YOUR BELONGINGS FROM THE ROOM!
Evening: 5:00 p.m to 11:00 p.m.
- kitchen available:
Morning: 7:30 a.m to 9:30 p.m
Evening: 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The kitchen is on the second floor and is self-service, Your cooperation is keeping it clean is appreciated by all.
- Closed hours: The hotel is closed from 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m, every day for maintenance. Please do not disturb.
- Visitors should carry their luggage, clean up after themselves and help with hostel tasks. This system permits low costs and promotes a spirit of cooperation and friendship among visitors from all over the world.

What should a visitor do if he arrives at the hotel at 11:00 a.m.?
( a ) Knock on the door and wait until someone opens it.
( b ) Wait until five o´clock, when the reception desk opens.
( c ) Go up to the reception desk and register.
