Olá,

O artigo definido (the) deve ser usado da mesma forma que usamos o/a/os/as em português. 
the boy that I saw yesterday
the movies wich I like the most is not working anymore 
 
Porém, em inglês nós não podemos usar The com substantivos próprios (nomes, cidades, países, etc)

Brazil is a very big country.
Maria was travelling when we visited her.
