In Brazil, there are quite a few holidays along the year! People take the opportunity to travel or to stay home and relax. In February or March, we have Carnival, a dazzling party which attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world. It has its origins in Portugal, as Brazil is a former colony of that European country. It’s mostly celebrated in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and in the North East. The styles are quite different, though: in Sao Paulo and Rio the music style is predominantly samba and pagode, whereas in the North East the emphasis is on some local styles such as frevo, maracatu and axé. Anyway, it’s a democratic party which celebrates the diversity.
