Zipper: A device consisting of two lines of small metal or plastic teeth that can be interlocked to faster pieces of clothing, bags or other itens. This type of fartener was first designed by Whitcomb Judson, an american engineer it was called the ''Clasp-locker'' and was patented on August 29th, 1893, in the same year, Judson exhibited his device at the Chigago world's fair. He and Lewis Walker founded a company (the universal. Fastener company) to manufacture the product, but they never had success im selling the invention. Judson died in 1909, before the ''clasp-locker'' become famous.
Later, 1913, The zipper was improved by gideos sundback (a farmer employll of Judson). Sundback called it ''Hookless fastener'' and was more successful than Judson. He sold his device to the USA Army, which uses zippers on the soldier's clothes during the world war. Goodrich manufactured boots with sundback's fastener and invented the word ''zipper'' in 1923. The inspiration for the name came from Zipping sound that zipper make when they open and close.
