Fernando Antonio Nogueira Pessoa was born on June 13, in 1888 and died on November 30, in 1935, bth in Lisbon, Portugal. He was a poet as well as a writer.
When he was eight years old, his mother and his stepfather moved to South Africa, where they stayed until he was seventeen. He became fluent in English and developed an early love for English-Language authors such as William Shakespeare and John Milton. He wrote his firs poems and most of his prose in English. He returned to Lisbon in 1905 and lived there until he died in 1935 wiht only one book published: "Mensagem."
