De uma forma simples, o "present perfect" possui 2 funções.
O primeiro é muito parecido com o passado simples, por exemplo, a sentença "I ate an apple"(Comi uma maçã) poderia ser também escrita sem mudança no significado como "I have eaten an apple".
A segunda função pode deixar explícito que alguém TEM FEITO ALGO, por exemplo "I have eaten so many apples of late"(Tenho comido muitas maçãs ultimamente).
