Rebirth
The renaissance took place initially in Italy and was spread throughout Europe between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. It was characterized by a critique of medieval values, which meant a return to the ideals of the Greco-Roman world, that is, an appreciation of the ideas of Classical antiquity. It was in the city of Florence that the classical texts began to be studied and Renaissance ideas spread to other Italian cities and later to other regions of Europe.
* Intense commercial development of the Italian cities which had a monopoly over trade in the Mediterranean Sea.
Renaissance Crisis
The renaissance is in decline after the loss of economic prestige of Italian cities, due to the Great Navigations, which change the economic axis from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic and the Catholic counter-reform, which has limited freedom of expression.
