An epidemic is the collective manifestation of a disease that quickly spreads, by direct or indirect contagion, until it reaches a large number of people in a given territory, and which then becomes extinct after a period of time.
The worst epidemics in history were: Antonine Plague (spox outbreak), Black Plague, Spanish flu (mutation of the Influenza virus), Tuberculosis, AIDS.
Infectious diseases can be acquired through direct contact with the infectious agent or through exposure of the person to contaminated water or food, as well as through the respiratory, sexual or animal injuries.
Remember to sanitize your hands whenever you get home, before eating or handling food, and whenever using the bathroom. This is the most effective way to eliminate viruses and bacteria that may have been acquired by touching surfaces or greeting contaminated people.
