The Simple Past is composed with the verb in the simple past form and its describes completed actions on the past

The Past Continuous describes actions or events in a time before now, which began in the past and were still going on when another event occurred. Usually, there is the particle "was/were", with the verb + ING.

The Past Perfect refers to a time earlier than before now. It is used to make it clear that one event happened before another in the past. Usually, its composed of the particle "had" + the past participle of the verb.

EAT

SP : We ate a delicious meal last night.

PC : I was playing when they arrived.

PF : I had just eaten my donut when my mom called

DRIVE

SP: We drove a long way to get here last month.

PC: We were driving last month

PF: We had just driven when the bridge started to break.

STUDY

SP: She sometimes studied Japanese at home.

PC: She was studying for the exam last night.

PF: She hadn't studied enough when the exam arrived.

FORGET

SP: He forgot his wallet earlier at home.

PC: He was forgetting his wallet when he left home.
