Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also known as Pelé or the King of Soccer, was the first soccer player to win 3 World Cups with the Brazilian Team (1958, 1962 and 1970).
He was born on October 23th, 1940 in Três Corações, MG. In 1956 he started playing football at Santos FC and remained there until 1974. After that, he moved to the New York Cosmos in 1975, where he stayed until retirement in 1977.
In 21 years as a professional athlete, he has scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 games. However, only 77 in the Brazilian team in 92 matches played.
Awards as a professional soccer player:
- Youngest player to win a World Cup, aged 17 years and 249 days in Sweden (1958).
- Fifa World Cup in Sweden (1958), Chile (1962) and Mexico (1970).
- Athlete of the Century, by the International Olympic Committee (1999).
- Best player of the 20th century, by FIFA (2000).
- Golden Ball - Honor Award (2013).
