Complicado responder tudo, mas irei lhe explicar resumidamente.
o "wasn't" você utilizará quando aparecer a pessoa (sujeito, digamos assim) no singular.
Já o "weren't" no plural.

Não podemos localizar apenas pelo o sujeito (pela a maioria das vezes), podemos encontrar pela a frase no PLURAL, facil de encontrar.
