Cognates
When you’re learning a new language, cognates are very helpful because they look and mean the same as words you already know. For example, gratitude in English means the same as gratitud in Spanish.
Just like cognate words have a shared origin – gratitude and gratitud both come from the Latin word gratitudo, meaning “thankfulness” –, people can be cognates based on their shared blood. For example, siblings (brothers and sisters) are cognates of their parents. They probably even look alike, just like cognate words.
The possessive adjective their, in the sentence “people can be cognates based on their shared blood”, refers to:
(A)
cognates
(B)
people
(C)
blood
(D)
based
