⇒⇒ Modal verbs >> são verbos ''diferentes'' que possuem características próprias. São usados para auxiliar o verbo principal da frase. Não são conjugados, não recebem ''s'' na terceira pessoa do singular, não têm plural. São sempre escritos da mesma forma, independente do contexto. Não têm tradução se estiverem sozinhos, sem um verbo em seguida.

a. Can - permission >>> permissão para fazer algo

   Can I leave now? >> Posso sair agora? (menos formal)

b. Can - fazer um pedido informal

   Can I have a piece of cake? >> Posso comer  um pedaço de bolo?

c. Can - exprime habilidade

    I can play the piano.

2. Could - para pedir permissão ou fazer um pedido educado.  

Could you bring me some water, please?

Could you open the window?

3. Could – para expressar uma possibilidade

  You could buy me some bread when you come home, Tim.

  You could finish your homework  tonight, so we can watch TV now.

4. Could – para sugerir algo (muito similar a possibilidade)

   Your hair is too long. You could have a hair cut tomorrow, Bob.

   You could fix the kids’s bike next weekend.
