BRAZIL/ARGENTINA
BILATERAL TALKS CONTINUE
Poultry sector representatives continue talks on
the dispute involving Argentina's minimum price
of $0,98 per kilo on imported chicken, virtually
suspending Brazilian exports, as the local market
price was $0,75 per kilo
The first deadline for an accord was last
week, and further conversations were extended
another week. However, Luiz Fernando Furlan,
chairman of Brazilian meatpacker Sadia, noted,
"an agreement is quite difficult since Argentine
producers are already protected by a resolution
setting a minimum price for imported chicken,
and are not interested in negotiating." Brazil, for
its part, argues that imported chicken is equal to
only 7%, at the most, of Argentina's production
In related news, Argentina's Congress was to
decide last week on extending import tariffs on
Brazilian sugar after 2001, although Brazil hopes
to end all tariffs by December 31, 2001. 1) retire os verbos que estão no simple past e indentifique os seus verbos de origem
