I was living in London when I first met my girlfriend. She was working at the National Gallery and she had an apartment by the river. We met at a café where we were sitting at separate tables. It was a beautiful summer day, and the sun was shining. I was going to the toilet when I bumped into her table and spilt her tea. I said “sorry” and bought her another drink. While I was having my coffee, she came over and sat at my table and started talking to me. She had an adorable voice and was very lively. We soon were looking lovingly at each other. That was an year ago and we are still together.

⚠️Was se usa para os sujeitos: I, He, She, It.

(Todos que não usam "are" como conjugação do verbo to be).

⚠️Were se usa para os sujeitos: We, You, They.

(Todos que usam "Are" como conjugação do verbo to be).

Se usa o past continuous quando indica ideia de continuidade no passado.

Por exemplo na primeira parte: "I was living", indica que aquilo acontecia naquele passado.

Já o verbo "meet", por exemplo, é usado no seu passado "met" por se tratar do verbo encontrar. Naquela hora eles se encontraram, o verbo começou e terminou quando aconteceu, por isso não é usado o past continuous e sim o past simple.
