Biden approves Texas disaster declaration and sends federal aid
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, approved the disaster declaration in Texas, following the request of Governor Greg Abbott. The state is already in a state of emergency due to the heavy snowstorms that have hit the state since February 11th.
Yesterday, Biden ordered the sending of federal assistance to more than 60 counties affected by the wave of intense cold and snowfalls.
The funds offered by the federal government may be used to build temporary housing and domestic repairs, as well as to offer low-cost loans to cover losses on uninsured properties.
Financial aid may also be allocated to other programs aimed at helping individuals and business owners to recover from the effects of the disaster.
According to the note released by the White House, federal support will be extended to state governments in other affected regions and to private non-profit organizations operating in the area.
Biden approves last week the state of emergency in Texas, however, the worsening situation called for the allocation of more resources to the state.
The President of the United States met on Friday (19) with the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Bob Fenton, and, at the meeting, declared his intention to approve the declaration of disaster status.
