Caso o adjetivo tenha até duas sílabas, acrescenta-se ''er'' ao adjetivo + than (em alguns casos, dobra-se a ultima consoante antes de adicionar ''er'')

Um trem é maior do que um carro.
Superlativo >> usado para dizer que uma coisa, uma pessoa, uma situação etc... é a maior/melhor etc... de todas. Podemos comparar com algo, mas não necessariamente.
My school is the biggest in the city. (nesse caso, comparamos ''cidade'')
Minha escola é a maior da cidade.
My car is the oldest. (nesse caso não comparamos com nada)
Meu carro é o mais velho.

the biggest plane >> o maior avião
the shiniest star >> a estrela mais brilhante
Exceções:
good - bom
the best - o melhor
bad - ruim
