A hurricane is a huge storm. It can have winds
from 75 to 200 mph. A hurricane usually lasts for over
a week, moving 10-20 miles per hour over the ocean.
Hurricanes gather heat and energy through warm
ocean waters. Evaporation from the seawater
increases their power. Hurricanes rotate inward and
upward in a counter-clockwise direction around an
"eye". The center of the storm or "eye" is the calmest
part of the hurricane with light wind and fair weather.
The difference between a hurricane, a typhoon and a
cyclone is... nothing. Just the place where it happens
define the name it has. In the Americas it's called a
hurricane, in the South are of Africa they are called
tropical cyclones and in Australia it's a typhoon.
