An electric heater supplies 13.500 joules of heat energy to a metal block of mass 0,5 Kg. The temperature of the block rises from 20 oC to 80 oC during the heating process. Assuming that very little heat is lost from the block during the heating process, what is the specific heat capacity (c) of the metal?

Note: Use the formula Eh = m . c . ∆T

Eh = Energy Heat in Joules (J)

Tip: Don’t convert the temperature to Kelvin, calculate the problem using Celsius temperature this time.

a) 80 J.(Kg/oC)

b) 120 J.(Kg/oC)

c) 450 J.(Kg/oC)

d) 620 J.(Kg/oC)

According to the formula of energy heat, we have:

Eh = m . c . ∆T

13.500 = 0.5 . c . (80 - 20)

13.500 = 30 . c

c = 13.500/30

c = 450 J.(Kg/°C)

Thus, the heat capacity of the metal is 450 J.(Kg/°C).
