C) She was cooking dinner when her friends arrived.

  I: Was she cooking dinner when her friends arrived?

  N: She wasn't cooking dinner when her friends arrived

d) He was doing the homework when his mother called.

  I: Was he doing the homework when his mother called?

  N: He wasn't doing the homework when his mother called.

Weren't = Were not

wasn't = Was not
