Bob Marley (1945-1981) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter and guitarist, responsible for making reggae a rhythm known worldwide. He was also one of the greatest representatives of the Rastafarian religious movement.

Robert Nesta Marley was born in Saint Ann, in northern Jamaica, on February 6, 1945. He was the son of a white military man, captain of the English army, and a young Jamaican black woman.

Her mother Celella Booker gave birth at the age of 18 after she became involved with the 50-year-old Brit, who went on to help financially support her son.

After his father's death in 1955, Marley and his mother went to live in the community of Kingston, where he suffered discrimination for being a mulatto, a fact that was not well regarded by blacks of that time and place.
