U.S.A. General Aspects

United States of America is a relatively young country, whose independence occurred on July 4th 1776. It was colonized by England and, at that time, was called 13 colonies. It is the third most populous country in the world, surpassed only by China and India, respectively.

It has approximately 320 million habitants. It is located on the North America continent. The name of this country is also expressed from acronyms like U.S.A. or U.S. in English and E.U.A. in Portuguese.

It is divided into 50 states. Has the world's largest economy. It is also the largest military and political power in the world. Its currency (dollar) is strong and is used as a reference to demonstrate economic data. Its official language is English and Washington D.C. is the capital.

The largest cities are: San Jose, Dallas, San Diego, San Antonio, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, the latter with a population of more than 12 million people.

The main sports are: Football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey and soccer, exactly in that order.

United States is one of the largest producers and exporters of corn, soybeans, meat and cotton. It is also one of the biggest importers of the products of the Brazilian industry.
