Tomorrow will be another day
After a long period of study and effort, Marcelo and Emerson are finally in the
eighth grade. They live in the same country, speak the same language, but they live
completely different lives. What will the future be like for each of them?
Marcelo lives in a large and comfortable apartment in a large Brazilian city. He
will study in an excellent school in the morning. In the afternoon he will take English
classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, and tennis lessons on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. On Fridays, as he always does, he will go on with his volunteer work.
Marcelo is a volunteer with a project that takes care of 150 children in a poor
neighborhood. On weekends he will go to the beach where his family has a house.
Next year he will study in the best high school in the city. He plans to go to college and
study medicine.
Emerson lives in a small house in a small town in Brazil. He will study in a
public school in the morning and will work in the afternoon and evening. He will work as
a packer in the local supermarket. Emerson won't have books to study or a computer
to help him with his homework. On Sundays he will go to church and then play soccer
with his friends. Next year Emerson will study in the evening and work during the day.
He has a dream. He wants to be an engineer.

escola pública de manhã e trabalhará à tarde e à noite. Ele trabalhará como
um empacotador no supermercado local. Emerson não terá livros para estudar ou um computador
para ajudá-lo com a lição de casa. Aos domingos, ele vai à igreja e depois joga futebol
com seus amigos. No próximo ano, Emerson estudará à noite e trabalhará durante o dia.
Ele tem um sonho. Ele quer ser engenheiro.
