A World of Emotions
Basic emotions are universal, but every culture has different ways to express them. For
example, Latin Americans are very expressive when they are happy, but the Japanese
usually control the way they show this emotion.
Some countries, like the United States of America, consider smiling positive. But a smile
when you greet somebody in Russia can be impolite. A smile in some Asian cultures can
show happiness but also embarrassment
When we know that people from other cultures have different ways to express their
emotions, it is easier for us to understand their attitudes. And knowing that emotions are
expressed in many ways in different cultures can help to bring people together.
