A tornado is a very strong wind that goes round and round in the shape of a tall, thin, chimney. It can
reach speeds of over 480 kilometers per hour. Tornadoes make a huge noise when they arrive, but they
normally only last for about fifteen minutes.
It is very difficult to know when a tornado is going to happen. They are one of the great forces of nature.
They usually arrive between the months of March and July causing death and damage in the Midwest of
the USA, from the Gulf of Mexico to the north of Canada.
Between the years 1900 and 1969,m around 12000 people died in the USA because of tornadoes.
