2.Reading Captain James Cook James Cook was born in a small village in England in 1728. When he was 12, he left school. He helped his father work on farmland near the village. When he was 17, James left home and walked to a village near the ocean to start a job in a store. When he reached the village, he looked out at the ocean. From that moment, he wanted to sail across the oceans. In 1755, Cook became a sailor in the British Navy. He was very good at drawing maps, so the British Navy asked him to sail to the South Pacific to explore and make maps of all the islands. In 1768, he left England and sailed south. Three years later, when he came back to England, Captain Cook was a famous explorer. On his ship were kangaroos and amazing types of fruit. Soluções para a tarefa
Resposta:
A forma verbal em inglês there to be expressa sentido de haver, existir ou ter, em português. Em inglês, o verbo varia de acordo com o número, de singular para plural, e de acordo com a variação temporal de presente para passado e futuro.
O there to be é constituído pelo there + o verbo to be correspondente ao pronome. Vale a pena relembrar a conjugação do verbo to be no passado:
I (eu) was
You (você) were
He (ele) was
She (ela) was
It (ele, ela) was
We (nós) were
You (vocês) were
They (eles, elas) were
Logo, temos duas formas, o there was e o there were. A primeira significa existia, havia ou tinha; a segunda, existiam, havia. Observe:
Passado singular afirmativo Passado plural afirmativo
There was a car in the street. (Havia um carro na rua.) There was 2 books in my bag. (Havia 2 livros na minha bolsa.)
There were someone waiting for you. (Havia alguém esperando por você.) There were some dogs in the garden. (Havia alguns cachorros no jardim.)
Para a forma negativa, apenas acrescentamos a palavra NOT. Observe:
Passado singular negativo Passado plural negativo
There was not a car in the street. (Não havia um carro na rua) There were not 2 books in my bag. (Não havia 2 livros na minha bolsa.)
There was not someone waiting for you. (Não havia alguém esperando por você.) There were not some dogs in the garden. (Não havia alguns cachorros no jardim.)
Para a forma interrogativa, apenas trocamos o verbo to be com o there, observe:
Passado singular interrogativo Passado plural interrogativo
Was there a car in the street? (Há um carro na rua?) Were there 2 books in my bag? (Havia 2 livros na minha bolsa?)
Was there someone waiting for you? (Havia alguém esperando por você?) Were there some dogs in the garden? (Havia alguns cachorros no jardim?)
Formas abreviadas:
There was not: There wasn’t
There were not: There weren’t
