4th of July is a special date for Americans because it was the day that 13 colonies, subjugated to England, gained their independence, becoming the country United States.
This event was unprecedented in America, no country had achieved independence before. On June 4th, 1777, to celebrate the first year of this historic feat, fireworks were launched into the sky and since then this act has become a tradition, as well as other activities such as: eating hot dogs, traveling by car or plane, gathering family to make many meals as a real birthday party, including birthday cake among others.
The Flag consists of 13 equal horizontal bands representing the former Thirteen Colonies and in a blue rectangle in the upper left corner the 50 stars represent the number of states today. Red symbolizes strength and courage, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.
