The Abaporu canvas, the most famous, was auctioned at Christie's in New York in November 1995. Argentine investor Eduardo Constantini bought it for $ 1.5 million. It is the most expensive painting ever made by a Brazilian artist.

For those who don't know, the work was made as a birthday present for Oswald de Andrade, then her husband. Together, they decided to baptize him with the Tupi-Guarani word whose meaning is “man who eats”. The name also inspired the writer to write the Anthropophagic Manifesto, in which he proposed the “swallowing” of European culture and its reformulation with national touches.
