There is, there are e any

Na gramática inglesa usamos "there is" ou "there are" para falar de coisas que podemos ver e de coisas que existem.

Usamos "there is" para substantivos singulares e incontáveis, e usamos "there are" para substantivos contáveis no plural.

Com substantivos contáveis no plural podemos dar a quantidade (five people) ou usar "some", se não soubermos a quantidade exata.

Há duas formas de formar o negativo:

  • Adicionar not ou n't ao final do verbo.
  • Para substantivos incontáveis, usar "any" após o negativo "isn't", e para substantivos contáveis no plural, usar "any" após "aren't".

Lembre-se: Não usar "any" com substantivos contabilizáveis singulares. A exemplo:

  • There isn’t a single biscuit left in the packet.
