Existem expressões no inglês, assim como no português, que tem significados diferentes dos literais. Unindo, por exemplo, verbos com preposições ou advérbios são formados os phrasal verbs.

Na primeira frase, tanto "faced lots of" quanto "ran into" possuem significado semelhante de ter que encarar/enfrentar algo.
