Meet Jane! She is a tall, talkative girl, and she is in the 9th grade this year. But Jane isn't having an easy time. First, all of her friends are gone to a different school, and she is having some trouble with Math classes. Ms. Tilda, the principal, even asked her: "Some students are taking some extra classes. You could apply for them as well." So she is going to these classes now. There, she has made her first friend this year, Alissa. And finally, things are getting better for Jane. Her grades are better, her mood is better as well. From rags to riches, so to speak! And you, how is your school year going so far?

Eu não entendi muito a segunda questão. Acredito que seja porque o autor se refere ao que está acontecendo no presente, mas não sei se é a resposta que querem.
