O ANY é usado geralmente em perguntas como: Você tem algum lápis em sua mesa? - Do you have any pencil in your desk?

Mas pode ser usado em afirmativas, como em uma resposta. Eu não tenho nenhum lápis na minha mesa. - I do not have any pencil in my desk.

O SOME é um pouco diferente, ele não pode ser usado em interrogativas, em interrogativas apenas o any será usado. O SOME é utilizado nas afirmativas para falar de alguns, apenas. Para usar some em negativas, usariamos MANY. Mas para usarmos many em uma resposta, teriamos que também reformular a pergunta. Então em um diálogo ficaria:

-Do you have any fruit in your kitchen? (Você tem alguma fruta na sua cozinha?)

- Yes, i have some fruits in my kitchen. (Sim, eu tenho algumas frutas na minha cozinha)

O A é um artigo utilizado com UM ou UMA. Mas, só será validado se utilizarmos ele antes de uma palavra que comece com uma consoante, caso contrário, usaremos AN.

Ex.:

There are an orange jacket in this store (Há uma jaqueta laranja nesta loja.)

There are a window in my bedroom (Há uma janela no meu quarto.)
