10 - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE - I was widowed seven years ago when I met
Roy. He was charming and he gave me flowers, cards, and gifts. We had
been married for about five months when the emotional abuse began. He
told me to quit my job. "ask his permission” to let my granddaughters visit
me, and drop all of my friends. One Christmas Day my daughter called to
invite us for dinner and asked to speak to him. He grabbed the phone from
my hand and started hitting me on my face and head with it. My daughter
heard all of this going on and called 911. The Police got there and arrested
him for assault. After that, I jumped through hoops to make our marriage
work. One of his forms of “punishment" was the silent treatment. It was an
emotional nightmare! I thought it would get better and it didn't. This man
was a manager at a Christian Television Station! According to research, it is
equally common for both the husband and the wife to be violent toward
