Explicação:

Quando os adjetivos se encontram no grau comparativo usa-se -er no final dos mais curtos e more + adjetivo para os mais longos.

Exemplo:

Happy = Happier                                Generous= more generous

*atenção*: para adjetivos formados ou terminados em consoante vogal consoante, a última letra duplica:

                            Sad= saddest   Big= bigger   Thin= thinner

e para adjetivos terminados em y há a troca do mesmo por i:

                        Happy= happier   Pretty= prettier   Lucky= luckier

Já quando se encontram no grau superlativo, acrescenta-se -est no final dos mais curtos e usa-se the most + adjetivo para os mais longos.

Exemplo:

                    Happy= happiest               Generous= the most generous

Observação: Dentro dos dois casos existem os adjetivos que são exceções e mudam completamente de forma para atender à função de relatividade.
