Simple Past Tense
- Frases interrogativas: usa-se o auxiliar did.
- Frases negativas: também usa-se o "did", acompanhado de "not".
Obs.: com pronomes interrogativos (What, When, Where, How etc.) você pode retirar o "did", mas é preciso colocar o verbo principal no passado.
Regra das afirmativas:
- Depois de verbos terminados em "e": só adicionar "d". Ex.: love => loved;
- Após verbos terminados em consoante: acrescentar "ed". Ex.: work => worked;
- Verbos terminados em CVC (consoante - vogal - consoante), com a última sílaba tônica: duplica a última consoante e acrescenta-se "ed". Ex.: stop => stopped;
- Verbos terminados em consoante + y => retira-se o y e coloca-se "ied". Ex.: study => studied.
- Verbos terminados em vogal + y => acrescenta-se "ed". Ex.: stay => stayed.
Obs.: no verbo To Be, o passado é feito com was (I, He, She, It) e were (You, We, They). Nos demais verbos irregulares, cada um muda de uma maneira diferente. É preciso consultar uma tabela com esses verbos, ou gravá-los.
