Marta Vieira da Silva is the most successful female footballer in Brazil; the only female football player in Brazil to receive the award of Fifa’s Women’s Player of the year, in 2006.
She recently played in the Uefa Cup final for the Swedish Umea IK, and in the match against the Arsenal Ladies, she was absolutely outstanding, although her team lost.

Marta was born in Dois Riachos, a small arid town of about 13,000 people, in the Brazilian region or north east (Alagoas). Marta’s father worked as a barber but he left her mother when the player was just a baby. She has two elder brother ad a sister.
