O presente do indicativo, ou simple present, como é conhecido em inglês, usualmente é utilizado para descrever hábitos, fatos, eventos de um futuro próximo ou para descrever o momento presente.

A regra para verbos regulares é muito simples: quando for conjugar basta remover o TO (da forma infinitiva) e repetir a base do verbo. Ex: I like. A exceção desta regra se dá na conjugação na terceira pessoa do singular.

Para conjugar na terceira pessoa do singular (she,he, it) deve se atentar à terminação dos verbos:

A regra para maioria dos verbos é: acrescer um S ao final; Ex: she likes

A regra para verbos terminados em ss, x, z, ch, sh e o é: acrescer ES ao final; Ex: he goes

A regra para verbos terminados em y, precedidos de consoante é: acrescer IES ao final. Ex: She cries
