⇒⇒ Linking words / Conectives / Conjunctions >>> são palavras que ligam duas partes de uma oração, para que a sentença faça sentido. Além disso, as linking words têm a função de explicar, contrastar, exemplificar ou unir duas ou mais frases.  

Exemplos:  

I wanted to call you.  

I don’t have your cellphone number.  

Usando a conjunção, as duas frases ficam ligadas.  

I wanted to call you but I don’t have your cellphone number.  

Há vários tipos de conjunções. As principais são:

1. Contrast - Contraste  >> although, but, despite, on the other hand

We went to the movies but we didn't like the movie.

Nós fomos ao cinema mas não gostamos do filme.

2. Adição - addition >>> and,  besides, moreover, not only, furthermore

John is handsome and tall.

John é bonito e alto.

3. Consecutivas ou conclusivas  >>> as a result of, so, once

We were late, so we didn't stop at Susan's house.

Nós estávamos atrasados, por isso não paramos na casa de Susan.
