"Plots are centered on the adventures of a group of seven-year-old friends in the fictional neighborhood of "Limoeiro" in São Paulo. The neighborhood was inspired by the neighborhood of Cambuí, in Campinas and the city of Mogi das Cruzes, where de Sousa lived his childhood. It is the main series created by the cartoonist, and also holds a series of mini-groups, in which the characters go through various adventures.
Over the years the series has received several animated films having commenced production in times that the animation was very rare in Brazil. The first animated film to be released was "As Aventuras da Turma da Mônica" (The Adventures of Monica's Gang) of 1982. After that, most of the films that were released were compilations of episodes from the cartoon. In 2008 the franchise has received a manga-style comic entitled Monica Teen."
